Councillor Stephen Henry, Town Mayor of Whiston 2024 - 2025 and Consort Mrs Carol Henry
My name is Stephen Henry and I was born in St Helens Road, Prescot in 1949, before moving to our family home in Brookside Road. I attended St Luke's Primary School, and moved onto Edmund Arrowsmith's Senior School and spent most of my younger years in Whiston, where most of my friends and family lived.
On leaving school, I had various jobs with local firms. I decided in the late 1980's to take a gamble and started my own business as a milkman and pop man around the Knowsley/St Helens area. Many people around Prescot and Whiston still remember getting their milk and pop deliveries and will refer to me as Steve, the pop man or milkman.
I married Carol in 1972, after meeting at a disco in CF Mott College and we have three children and eight grandchildren, two girls and six boys.
I am very community orientated and have been involved in many local groups, including Brown's Field, Prescot Cemetery and Churchyard. I have been an elf for Eaton Street Park Christmas Grotto and, last year, appeared as Father Christmas.
I am currently Treasurer for the Prescot Mission Christmas Dinner and help with fundraising throughout the year. I am also a volunteer at St Nicholas Churchyard, keeping the grounds and graves tidy.
I began to become involved in local politics about three years ago, narrowly losing my first election, but the following year, in 2023, I was elected Councillor for Whiston South. I was elected Deputy Mayor in 2023 - 2024 and, in May 2024, became Mayor of Whiston. I am extremely proud to be Mayor and hope, during the year, to support the community of Whiston.
My hobbies include my garden and reading a good book. After retiring, I learned to play the ukelele and I am currently learing to play the guitar. The Ukelele group perform many gigs, going to local hospitals, care homes etc. and I enjoy these very much and the group always receive a good reception.
I hope, as Mayor, to be fully involved in Community events and I am looking forward to attending and meeting with various groups and people.
