Plans for New Country Park at                                            Halsnead Garden Village approved

The prospect of a new country park for Knowsley moved a step closer following the approval of the Council's planning committee.

Plans were approved for the new 28 hectare country park on the site of the former Cronton Colliery.

The country park application includes the creation of a sculptured landscape, with a series of multi-user routes, including crossings over a newly created wetland area.  The park will also feature a visitor centre with reception, cafe, education space, ranger officers and an outdoor terrace area, construction of an outdoor classroom canopy and a sky room.

The country park will be supported by a car park, with vehicle access from Cronton Road.  Walking and cycling routes will also link to the country park.

The country park will form part of Halsnead Garden Village, one of 14 nationwide locations awarded garden village status by the Government in 2017.

As well as the country park, Halsnead Garden Village will incorporate 1,600 homes and at least 22.5ha of employment land, together with new education and health provision and 33 hectares of strategic greenspace.

Once complete it will be the largest combined housing and employment site in the City Region.
